Chris Lambton: The first thing to do when planning a summer garden is to create a plan from flowering to be sure that you have the color of the spring until winter.

Peyton Lambton: Make a list of what you want in your yard before buying anything to make sure not to lose money or go over big that can keep.

CL: It depends on the amount of space you have in your backyard. If you don't have little or no space, go with your vertical garden. If you have some space, go with a container garden so you can move with the Sun and the seasons. If you have an average size yard, you can go with a square foot garden with planting beds to make the most of your space.

PL: Do not bite more than he can chew. Just because you have a huge patio doesn't mean that you have to fill with a square foot garden. This is another good time to make a list of what you will plant and wants to get out of your garden. Planning is the key!

CL: I recommend to go to a local nursery and tea asking a professional there. You can also drive around your neighborhood and take note of what grows best at your around.

CL: Every garden should have herbs for cooking, tomatoes and your favorite to pick up flowers.

PL: Marigolds and lavender are great to add because they help to keep away mosquitoes and see well. Good way to add color and be functional at the same time!

PL: This depends on your climate zone. The two best times for sowing are spring and autumn.

CL: Autumn is the best time for planting bulbs and perennials, so start to appear in the spring. If you missed the time of planting, spring is also a good time to plant. Spring is best for annuals, since they are only good for the season.

CL: If you have the time and somewhere sunny for cultivation, the seeds are a much more profitable way to start. If you don't have the time and patience, the seedlings are the way forward.

CL: The most important irrigation is when you water. It is best to irrigate early in the morning because all the water reaches the roots when the soil has cooled. This will allow the plant absorbs water and use it throughout the day.

PL: Use a water clock in the hose or irrigation system is a great way to control how much water is getting your garden. Set the timer for early in the morning, then you don't have to think twice.

CL: HGTV.com and the new HGTVGardens.com are ideal for ideas and tips. I always go to the professionals at my local nursery. They know best what I need where I live.
